- Thucydides
Expedition Church is a contemporary church in Cartersville, Georgia, that is built upon the belief that every person who claims to be a Christian should be on an adventurous faith journey with God. Their life should be characterized by three consistent actions: SEEKING God daily, SERVING God faithfully as He leads, and SHARING God diligently with those in their spheres of influence.
Our mission is to encourage, equip, and empower people in each of these areas so they can know and experience God in a deeper way.
SEEK GOD
Unless we seek God fervently on a daily basis, we will live according to what we think and feel is right. When we seek Him, the Bible tells us we will find Him and He will reveal Himself, His purposes, and His provision to us.
Check out the following verses that speak about seeking God:
1 Chronicles 28:9, 2 Chronicles 15:2, Jeremiah 29:13, Amos 5:4, Matthew 6:33, Matthew 7:7.
SERVE GOD
When God reveals Himself to us, He calls us to join Him in His work. At that point, we have a choice to make – follow God and serve Him or reject Him and follow our own way. These are the only two choices. Our obligation as Christians is to follow God no matter the cost. When we refuse to follow God, we miss out on knowing Him more deeply and experiencing the joy of seeing Him work through us to impact this world for Him. We also miss out on heavenly rewards.
The following verses tell us more about serving God: John 4:34, John 5:19, Matthew 6:1-18. Matthew 16:24, Mark 10:45, Luke 6:35, 1 Corinthians 3:14, Ephesians 2:10.
SHARE GOD
There are two aspects of sharing God:
a) Telling others about Jesus and
b) Encouraging fellow believers to passionately and consistently seek God.
Telling others about Jesus:
If Christians focus primarily on growing in knowledge of God and the Bible and don’t consistently share the Good News of Jesus with others, they are rebelling against God and forsaking those without Christ.
Being a Christian requires getting out of one’s comfort zone to share the Gospel with others - but isn’t it worth it?
The following verses encourage us to tell others about God: Proverbs 24:11-12, Luke 10:2, Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 19:10, Acts 1:8, Romans 10:13-15, James 2:14-26.
Encouraging Believers:
Hebrews 10:24 says we should “spur one another on to love and good deeds.” This is part of sharing God – encouraging one another to live as fully devoted followers of Christ and impact the world for Him. Without this encouragement, we quickly move toward being self-focused. One of the best ways to encourage other believers while being encouraged yourself is through small group gatherings.
At Expedition, we call our small group gatherings 4×4 Groups. 4x4 Groups are four or more people gathering for four purposes: Bible study, prayer, encouragement, and care.
